ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is asking residents to search for a suspect in a Montgomery County homicide.
The RCSO posted photos on its Facebook page on Sunday of a “senseless and brutal murder” of a convenience store clerk in the town of Star, about half an hour north of Rockingham.
The RCSO and Biscoe Police are assisting the Star Police Department with this case.
“Let’s get this criminal off our streets and bring justice to the victim!” reads a message from the Biscoe Police Department.
WXII reports that the shooting happened just after 10 p.m. Saturday at Quik Chek.
Citing investigators, WXII reports the suspect entered the store wearing a balaclava and mask, brandished a gun and jumped over the counter before shooting the clerk, a 53-year-old woman, three times. .
The WGHP, citing Chief David Kime, reports that the woman was shot with a .22 caliber handgun. The chief also allegedly told WGHP that the suspect had a conversation with her and did not show her the gun until he opened the cash drawer.
Both news outlets report that the SBI is handling the homicide investigation.
