Surveillance video released after beloved store worker shot, killed in northeast Houston

HOUSTON – Houston police released surveillance video in the fatal shooting of a beloved gas station worker in northeast Houston on Sunday.

KPRC 2 learned that the victim was Jhon Dias, 26. Those who knew him said he was from India and worked in Houston to send money to his future wife.

The shooting took place at 6566 Homestead Road around 8:10 a.m.

The suspect is described only as a black male, between the ages of 20 and 25, about five feet seven inches tall and weighing about 140 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black jacket, black pants with white stripes, and black shoes. He had a hoodie on his head and a black mask.

Surveillance video shows the suspect entering the store, pulling out a gun at the checkout and fleeing the scene on foot.

HPD Homicide Division detectives said officers responded to a convenience store shooting call. Upon arrival, they met the Houston Fire Department paramedics and entered the store. Once inside, they found the store clerk in the back room apparently suffering from a gunshot wound. Paramedics attempted to provide assistance, but the clerk was pronounced dead at the scene.

There is no known motive in this case.
