Store worker shot in face at gas station in West Houston

The Houston Police Department is investigating a shooting that injured a man.

Houston Police said a gas station worker was hit in the face by a man trying to open the cash register.

The shooting took place around 9:30 p.m. Monday in the 8600 block of Memorial Drive.

The victim was taken to hospital in critical but stable condition and is expected to survive, police say.

Authorities were able to examine surveillance video from the scene.

Police say the clerk moved his vehicle to the front of the store and then returned inside.

About a minute later, police said, the suspect drove up, entered the store, walked straight to the counter and shot the clerk in the face.

The suspect then allegedly climbed the counter and attempted to open the register, but was unsuccessful.

Police said the victim stood up and the suspect hit him.

The victim was able to exit the store and stopped a vehicle for assistance. They called the police.

Police said the suspect was a beefy black man with a beard who was in a newer two-door Mercedes.
