Reward offered for information on the homicide of a store clerk

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Almost two weeks have passed and Sri Satya Krishna Chitturi’s killer is still free. The 27-year-old store clerk was shot dead during a robbery at the Crown gas station in Sylacauga on February 9.

The Talladega County Sheriff’s Office and Central Alabama CrimeStoppers are offering thousands of dollars in rewards for any tips leading to an arrest.

Investigators are looking for information on the suspect described as a black male, approximately 6′0 to 6′2″, with a slender build wearing black clothing, an Air Jordan backpack, with black and white Nike shoes.

Tony Garrett, executive director of CrimeStoppers, says something has to be done to get this suspect off the streets before anyone else gets hurt. He asks the audience to wonder if Chitturi was a member of their family.

“It could have been your parent trying to support their family in a store,” Garrett says. “This person lost their life because of ignorance. Because of selfishness. Because of simple evil. We need this person taken off the streets. This person could do the same to someone ‘one you know.

Although CrimeStoppers have released photos and videos of the suspect, Garrett says it’s still difficult to identify him.

“He’s covered in a mask,” says Garrett. “The only person who might be able to identify him may be a relative or friend who has known him for a long time. Neighbor. A high school friend. Someone like that, they can know how he reacts.

The Sheriff’s Office and CrimeStoppers both offer rewards, but Garrett often says these are left on the table.

“Sixty percent of our rewards go uncollected. So that tells you that we have good citizens, but sometimes they find themselves in a situation where it might be a relative. It might be a neighbor, and he might be scared or nervous about reporting that person. You can go ahead and call us and talk to us and you don’t need to be identified.

As Garrett mentioned, all tips can be submitted to CrimeStoppers anonymously. All you have to do is call the 24-hour information line at 215-STOP or 1-833-AL1-STOP.

The Talledega Sheriff’s Office is offering a $5,000 reward and CrimeStoppers has $1,000 for any tips leading to an arrest in this case.
