Man blindly pleads for murder of store clerk

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — A man has pleaded guilty to murdering a convenience store clerk after a robbery.

In September 2020, officials said George Lorenze Way robbed a convenience store near SW 15th Street and Mustang Road.

After he walked out of the store, authorities say the store’s clerk, Laura Taylor, walked out.

At that time, she was fatally shot.

“We don’t know why she followed him into the parking lot. However, it is not uncommon for a store clerk to do this. To see which direction a person is fleeing or what type of vehicle they are getting into to get a better description,” MSgt. Gary Knight of the Oklahoma City Police Department said.

Way was eventually arrested on charges of first degree murder and robbery with a firearm.

According to court records, Way waived his right to a trial and pleaded blind to both charges.

His sentencing is set for July 14.
