Hazlet store clerk sold vaping products to minors: police

HAZLET, NJ – A Hazlet gas station clerk was arrested Monday and charged with selling tobacco products to someone under the age of 21, according to the Hazlet Police Department.

Officers monitored the Shell gas station convenience store on State Highway 36 and Middle Road to see if store clerks were checking customers’ IDs, after receiving a report from a concerned relative that their child had bought vaping products there.

Meanwhile, officers saw multiple transactions and were able to confirm the company was selling the products to minors, police said.

This is not the first time this store has had problems. Less than a year ago, police discovered that another employee was selling to minors.

“Unfortunately, the sanction for this offense has not been a deterrent so far, so we will continue to look for additional ways to take more stringent enforcement measures,” police said in a statement.
