Detroit man charged with robbery and fatal shooting of liquor store worker – CBS Detroit

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) — A Detroit man is accused of fatally shooting 64-year-old Behnam Rasho at a liquor store early last week.

According to the Wayne County District Attorney’s Office, 23-year-old Dvante Antioni Howard is charged with one count of murder, two counts of armed robbery, one count of assault with intent to murder and four counts firearm charge.

According to authorities, at around 9:16 p.m. on January 17, Howard walked into Andy’s Market on the James Couzens Highway and fired shots, fatally wounding Rasho before robbing the store and fleeing. Officers were dispatched to the scene and found Rasho with multiple gunshot wounds. Doctors arrived and pronounced him dead at the scene.

Prosecutors say Howard is also charged with a separate robbery on Dec. 31.

At around 6:40 a.m. that day, authorities say he drove to a gas station in the 20200 block of the James Couzens Highway and allegedly robbed the store, assaulting the clerk before fleeing. Howard is charged with one count of armed robbery causing grievous bodily harm, one count of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and two counts of firearm.

He was indicted on Thursday. He was remanded in custody for the murder case and given $500,000 cash bond for the separate theft case, and ordered to have no contact with witnesses.

Probable cause conferences for both cases are scheduled for Feb. 10, and preliminary reviews are scheduled for Feb. 17.
