Decatur gas station store worker injured in confrontation with customers, police report says | public safety

DECATUR – Police report that a store worker at the Decatur gas station was injured after a confrontation with customers upset at being asked to prove their age.
Decatur Police Detective Sergeant. Steve Carroll said the incident happened around 12:25 a.m. Monday at the Circle K gas station convenience store at 1685 Baltimore Ave.
“Two guys came in and bought some stuff and they wanted cigars or something and the salesman asked them for ID and they started talking to each other,” Carroll said.
The detective said the incident escalated into a physical confrontation after the employee went out with customers and Carroll said he understood the 38-year-old employee suffered from bruised ribs.

The detective advised store employees in similar situations to call the police and not to leave counter area security, especially if it has security guards.
The two assailants are wanted for fraud.

The case dates back to January 13, 2021, when Hand, a registered sexual predator, attempted to abduct a female customer from the Macon gas station where he then worked.
