Atlanta store worker charged with shooting customer in the face

Police are trying to locate a store worker in southwest Atlanta who is accused of shooting one of his customers.

Investigators say that around 11 p.m. Wednesday, a man playing slots inside the Maraton Food Mart on Campbelton Road attempted to collect his winnings. The clerk refused to pay the cash, which upset the customer. Police said the customer then began ransacking the store.

The clerk came out from behind the counter. According to detectives, he and the client had a verbal altercation, which escalated into a physical altercation. The clerk then allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the customer in the face.

Another person inside the store rushed the injured customer to a nearby fire station. He was then taken to Grady for treatment. At the last check-up, the man was in stable condition.

By the time the police arrived at the store, the clerk was gone and the place was locked. They got a warrant and investigators entered looking for clues.

The name of the clerk has not been released and officers are still looking for him.

They say that until they have the clerk’s version of the facts, it is too early to know what charges he will face, if any.

If you have any information that might assist officers in this case, please call the Atlanta Police Department.
